Q For this Journal assignment, number (1 - 6) and answer each of the following discussion questions below: 1) Read through the whole list. Which one of the movies on this Top 100 Films list did you like the most? Why? 2) What is the most favorite film that you have ever seen in your life? It may be, but it does NOT have to be on the Top 100 Films list. 3) If possible, re-watch your favorite film carefully, and look for the elements of film artistry discussed in the textbook and in the online lectures for the Cinema chapter (page 299.) Pay attention to cuts, shots, camera angles, etc. Watch the film for analysis and use film criticism. 4) What do you think specifically makes your favorite film so great? 5) Discuss something the director did that made your favorite film special - this may be something small and specific, like the way lighting created mood, or it may be related to the overall style of the film. Be as specific as possible in your discussion. 6) Using the evaluative process (page 52), give your personal evaluation of the film. Would you highly recommend this movie to a friend or classmate? Remember, your participation and response should reflect your reading and understanding of the chapter and specific content for this session.

1. My favorite movie out of the list is The Godfather. I find this movie a cinematic masterpiece because of its use of music, camera and editing. 2. My most favorite movie is Memento (2000) directed by Christopher Nolan and it is a neo-noir movie. 3. The movie uses some of the most interesting techniques of cinematography. The director uses colors to showcase timelines. For example, the black and white documentary-style colors are used to show the past experiences of the protagonist while the colors were added to show the present timeline. By this, the audience can determine the timeline of the movie while watching because being a neo-noir film, the timeline changes frequently.
